Land of Lincoln Honor Flight

On June 22, 2010, my great uncle, Charles Murray was able to go on the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.  This flight is for all WWII Veterans.  This flight is free.  They fly to Washington, D.C. for the day.  On his flight there were 96 Veterans.  They had to be at the Springfield, IL Airport at 4:45 in the morning.  They went to the memorials in D.C.  and then flew back home.  On the flight home they are issued a final mail call.  Our family and friends wrote letters to Uncle Chuck.  Once they arrive back in Springfield around 10:00 pm they were given a "Welcome Home Parade" (that is what I am calling it).  You will see a few videos of that.  It was very touching to see how grateful the Veterans were to see us all at the airport.

Since Uncle Chuck has been home he has called me a few times saying what a great trip he had.  He said he is especially touched by the letters everyone wrote to him.  So a big thank you goes out to everyone that took the time to send a little note!!

The day before the flight the VFW in Springfield had a dinner for the Veterans and guests.
